Oh, the stunning sunflower! So aptly named! There are fields of wild sunflowers near our home.  They are such a wonderful symbol of long lazy summer days.  I sculpted the bird of paper mache.  The beak is a stone found in the mountains near my home. The legs are grapevine twigs from my backyard. I wrapped them in wire and sculpted the sturdy feet. The final decorative layer is a lovely ecological plant fiber paper. I then painted the sprightly sunflowers and leaves to cheerfully adorn this friendly bird sculpture.  Glass bead eyes gaze gently. I gave the entire sculpture a protective coating of artist matte varnish. 7" tall, 8" long
