Blue skies, trees beginning to leaf out. This sculpture honors the rising energy of spring. Lovingly sculpted from paper mache and natural elements. The tail and wings are scraps from the cottonwood trees. The beak is a stone found in the mountains near my home. The legs are twigs I gathered on a walk. I wrapped them in wire and sculpted the sturdy feet. I painted the bird sculpture with the blues of the skies above me. I painted the illustration of the tree to honor the resurging spirit of Spring. Glass bead eyes peer inquisitively. I gave the entire sculpture a protective coating of artist matte varnish.
